About Cat Roam
A bag, before it is bought, is already a story someone tells themselves. In 2021 a few of us rode through Shangri-La with the usual assortment strapped to our bikes — nothing terrible, nothing quite right either. The light ones failed in rain. The weatherproof ones had the elegance of a tarpaulin. We wanted an object that did not force the choice: light, durable, resistant to weather, and — why not — pleasant to look at. Such a bag did not exist, so among ourselves we decided to make it.
The first result was not a single bag but a system: saddle, top tube, frame, handlebar, bidon, and the smaller pieces that hold a setup together rather than merely occupy it. The project had a name before it had a plan. It became Cat Roam.
Design remains ours — the drawing, the choice of fabric and hardware, the testing that never quite ends. Construction we leave to a manufacturing partner already trusted by larger outdoor houses: their skill, our scale, which is to say small, and on purpose.
Our bags are light, functional, understated, made to be used rather than admired. Materials are not decoration but argument. Dyneema®, UltraWeave™, ALUULA®, ECOPAK™; hardware by Fidlock®, BOA®, and other manufacturers equally particular about their craft. We reach for them only when the result is lighter, stronger, or easier to use — never because a label reads well.
Cat Roam is made in batches, and batches end. When one does, we begin the next; a notice on the product page will tell you when it is ready. This is not scarcity staged for effect, merely the pace at which things get made properly.
Some riders need a bag built around a particular bike, a particular way of travelling. For these we take on a limited number of custom projects, frame bags above all. Dimensions, layout, attachment points, and small functional details can move; fabric and colour stay within what our suppliers currently allow — a minimum order is still a minimum order. Write to us with your bike and what you need. We will tell you what is possible, and what is not.
Replies may be slow when we are away — riding, or simply away.
There are, it must be said, already many good bags in the world. Buy one when the need is real. Use it often. Keep it as long as you can.
Nothing extra. Everything enough.
